About Character Forge

Character Forge builds a complete, ready-to-play Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition character in one click, at any level from 1 to 20. If you need a full character right now instead of working through the Player's Handbook step by step, this handles it: pulling up a quick NPC mid-session, generating a pre-made character for a one-shot, or just seeing a build you hadn't thought of.

Each roll works through the same steps you'd normally do by hand. It picks a race and class, assigns ability scores, works out hit points and armor class, chooses skills and spells where they apply, puts together starting gear, and rolls up a background with a personality hook. All of it scales properly to the level you've chosen, including class features gained along the way. Leave race and class open to see what the dice give you, or set either one if you already have something in mind.

A few common questions

Can I lock part of a character in and reroll the rest? Yes. Background and alignment can be locked before you strike the seal again, so you keep the parts you like while rerolling everything else.

Does it follow the official rules? Character Forge currently uses the 2014 5th Edition ruleset (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual). A toggle for the 2024 revised rules is planned for a future update.

Can I save characters I like? Sign in with My Rolls to keep a history of everything you've forged, so you can come back to a character later.

About Monster Forge

Monster Forge pulls a full 5th Edition stat block from a library of 256 creatures, spanning every challenge rating from a common rat right up to the Tarrasque. Each one comes with armor class, hit points, speed, ability scores, saving throws, skills, traits, and actions, exactly as you'd find in a stat block from the Monster Manual.

It's aimed at Dungeon Masters running an encounter on short notice, whether that's a monster the party stumbles into outside a planned fight or a stat block you need pulled up fast mid-session. Pick a threat tier that roughly matches your party's level, strike the seal, and you get a creature ready to drop straight into the fight.

A few common questions

How do I pick the right threat tier for my party? Start from your party’s level: for four characters, a single monster with a challenge rating close to their level is roughly a medium fight. For example, four level 5 characters would find a CR 5 monster a fair fight, so pick Low (CR 2–5). For a tougher boss, step up to Mid (CR 6–10), where a CR 8 is a hard fight and a CR 9 is deadly. If you’re using several monsters at once, step down a tier, since numbers make a fight harder. For an exact difficulty for your party, use Encounters.

How are the threat tiers grouped? Monsters are split into five tiers by challenge rating, so you can roll something that actually fits the encounter rather than getting a random spread across every difficulty.

Can I see a monster's full stat block, not just a summary? Yes. Every roll gives you the complete block, including all of its actions, not a shortened version.

Is this useful outside of combat? It works well for quickly reading a creature's traits and lore hooks too, not just its numbers, if you want a monster for a scene rather than a fight.

About Loot Table

Loot Table rolls a full treasure hoard scaled to your party's level: coin, mundane trade goods, and magic items drawn from the same rarity tiers used in Character Forge. A level 1 party pulls common finds and modest gold, while a high level hoard can turn up rare or even legendary items alongside a much larger pile of coin.

It's built for the moment after a fight or a dungeon room, when you need to know what's actually in the chest without working out gold values and rarity by hand. Pick a level and a hoard size, from a small stash up to a huge vault, and strike the seal for a complete result.

A few common questions

What decides how good the loot is? Both the level you set and the hoard size affect the outcome. Level controls which rarity tiers are in play, and hoard size controls how much of everything you get.

Will I always get a magic item? Not at very low levels, where a hoard might just be coin and mundane gear. From level 2 upward you'll typically see at least one magic item included.

Can I reroll just to see other results at the same settings? Yes, striking the seal again at the same level and hoard size gives you a fresh roll each time.

About Encounters

Encounters builds a combat encounter using the actual 5th Edition encounter-building rules from the Dungeon Master's Guide: party XP thresholds by level, adjusted by a multiplier for how many creatures are involved. Set your party's size, average level, and how hard you want the fight to be, and it works out a monster lineup that lands close to that difficulty.

Recent updates cap how many of the same creature can appear, so a large encounter comes back with a genuine mix of monsters rather than the same one repeated many times over. There's also an option to include a short flavor hook, giving you a scene to introduce the fight with, rather than a plain list of monsters and nothing else.

A few common questions

How accurate is the difficulty rating? It uses the same XP thresholds and monster-count multipliers as the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide, so it's a good guide, but it's an estimate. Your party's classes, magic items and tactics, and the terrain, can make a fight easier or harder than the numbers suggest.

Can I get just monsters, without the flavor text? Yes, the stat blocks only option skips the hook and gives you the encounter on its own.

Can I keep an encounter for later? Yes. Sign in and use Save to My Rolls to keep it, or use Share to send a link to it, Copy as Text to paste it into your notes, or Export as PDF to print it.

About Town Forge

Town Forge builds a whole settlement for your D&D 5e game in one click: its name, who runs it, how it defends itself, what it's known for, the trouble brewing there and the rumours going round. Then it fills the streets with buildings, from taverns and temples to smithies, apothecaries and stranger places, each with its own name, description and the people who live and work there.

Pick as many town types as you like and they shape everything: a snowy mining village gets an assay office, sled kennels and dwarven miners, an underwater town gets kelp farms, coral shrines and triton innkeepers, and a pirate haven gets a fence, a rum hall and a gallows by the dock. Click any building to see its stock and prices and meet its owner and staff, each with a look, a manner, a quirk, a secret and something they want, ready to become your next adventure hook.

A few common questions

How big can a town get? From a thorp of a few dozen people up to a metropolis of 100,000. The population slider follows the Dungeon Master's Guide settlement sizes, and bigger places get more buildings, more taverns and temples, and districts you can browse one at a time.

Can I keep a town for my campaign? Yes. Sign in and use Save to My Rolls, and the whole town, every building and every NPC, is kept exactly as it is, with a notes box for anything you add at the table. You can also share a link, copy it as text, or export it as a PDF.

Where do the shop prices come from? Everyday goods use the Player's Handbook prices, nudged up or down by the town's wealth. Magic shops stock items from the rarities a town that size and wealth could plausibly have, priced using the Dungeon Master's Guide ranges.

About Spellbook

Spellbook holds 405 spells from 5th Edition, from cantrips through 9th level, searchable by name and filterable by both spell level and class. Click any spell to open its full entry: casting time, range, components, duration, and the complete effect text, the same information you'd find on a spell's page in the Player's Handbook.

Every spell from the System Reference Document also has its own page, with what it does, how it scales and which classes get it when: browse all spells by level.

It's meant for the moment mid-session when you need to check exactly what a spell does, whether that's confirming a player's cast, looking up range or duration on the fly, or browsing what a class has available at a given level while building a character.

A few common questions

Can I filter by class and level at the same time? Yes, both filters apply together, so you can narrow the list to, for example, only Wizard spells at 3rd level.

Does it cover every class? Yes, all core 5th Edition spellcasting classes are included, along with every spell available to them.

Is the spell text the same as the Player's Handbook? The entries are written to match the SRD rules rather than quoted directly from the book, so the mechanics are accurate while the wording is our own.

About Bestiary

Bestiary is a searchable lookup of every creature's full stat block, the same monsters Monster Forge draws from, but here you search for a specific creature by name instead of rolling a random one. Type a name or filter by creature type, and click through to see armor class, hit points, speed, abilities, traits, and every action in full.

Every creature from the System Reference Document also has its own page, with its full stat block, how hard a fight it is for your party and story hooks: browse all monsters by challenge rating.

It's built for the moment you already know which creature you need. A Druid player checking what shape they'll take with Wild Shape, or a Dungeon Master confirming a monster's exact stats mid-fight, without digging back through Monster Forge's random rolls to find it.

A few common questions

How is this different from Monster Forge? Monster Forge rolls a random creature for you. Bestiary is a direct lookup, search for exactly the creature you already have in mind.

Can I save a creature for later? Yes. Sign in and use Save to My Rolls on any creature's stat block, and it'll be waiting in My Rolls next session.

Does it cover every creature Monster Forge can roll? Yes, every creature Monster Forge can roll is available here too, just searchable directly rather than by chance.

A few common questions

Can I use a character from My Rolls? No — every Dungeon Run character is generated fresh at level 1, separately from your saved characters, so a run never touches My Rolls.

What happens if I lose? Death is permanent in this mode. The run ends, and there's no way to continue with that character.

Can I pick up where I left off? Yes, if you're signed in your progress saves automatically and you can resume an in-progress run any time you open this tab.
