Shapechanger. The vampire can polymorph into a Tiny bat or a Medium cloud of mist, or back into its true form.
Regeneration. The vampire regains 20 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point, unless it took radiant damage or damage from holy water since its last turn.
Multiattack. The vampire makes two attacks, only one of which can be a bite.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one willing creature or one that is grappled. Hit: 7 (1d6+4) piercing damage plus 10 (3d6) necrotic damage, and the vampire regains hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt.
Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 8 (1d8+4) bludgeoning damage, and if the target is Medium or smaller it is grappled.
How hard a fight? Against a party of four, a single vampire is deadly at levels 1–9, hard at levels 10–11, medium at levels 12–14 and easy at levels 15–19, and barely a challenge from level 20. Add allies or more foes in the encounter generator.
Where you'll find it: towns and cities and dungeons.
