2nd-level divination spell
For the duration, you can read the thoughts of certain creatures. When you cast it and as your action on later turns, you can focus on one creature you can see within 30 feet and learn its surface thoughts; a creature with Intelligence 3 or lower or that speaks no language is unaffected. As an action, you can switch to another creature or probe deeper: the target makes a Wisdom saving throw, and on a failure you learn its reasoning, emotional state, and something that looms large in its mind, while on a success the spell ends. Either way it knows you are probing, and unless you switch away it can use its action to make an Intelligence check contested by yours, ending the spell if it wins. You can also sense thinking creatures you can’t see within 30 feet; 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of non-lead metal, or a thin sheet of lead blocks this.
