Traits

Damage Transfer. While attached to a creature, the cloaker takes only half of any damage dealt to it (rounded down), and the creature it’s attached to takes the other half.

False Appearance. While it stays still with its underside hidden, the cloaker looks exactly like a dark leather cloak.

Light Sensitivity. In bright light, the cloaker has disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Actions

Multiattack. The cloaker makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its tail.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage, and if the target is Large or smaller, the cloaker attaches to it. If the cloaker had advantage on the attack, it wraps the target’s head, leaving the target blinded and unable to breathe while attached. While attached, the cloaker can bite only that target and has advantage on the roll. It can let go by spending 5 feet of movement; any creature, including the target, can use its action to pull it off with a DC 16 Strength check.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) slashing damage.

Moan. Each creature within 60 feet that can hear the moan and isn’t an aberration must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of the cloaker’s next turn. A creature that succeeds is immune to this cloaker’s moan for 24 hours.

Phantasms (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). If it isn’t in bright light, the cloaker magically conjures three illusory copies of itself that move with it and constantly swap places, making the real one impossible to track. The copies vanish in bright light. When a creature targets the cloaker with an attack or harmful spell while a copy remains, it randomly determines whether it targets the cloaker or a copy; creatures that don’t rely on sight are unaffected. A copy shares the cloaker’s AC and saving throws and is destroyed by any hit. The effect lasts 1 minute, as if concentrating on a spell.

Running the cloaker

How hard a fight? Against a party of four, a single cloaker is deadly at levels 1–4, hard at levels 5–6, medium at levels 7–8 and easy at levels 9–11, and barely a challenge from level 12. Add allies or more foes in the encounter generator.

Where you'll find it: the Underdark and dungeons.

Story hooks

  • A merchant’s prized cloak has been passed down through four generations, and every owner has died young. The current heir is twelve, and the cloaker on his shoulders has started whispering to him in his mother’s voice.
  • A cloaker has been hanging in a temple vestry for years, feeding only on thieves. The priests know, and they want the party to stop asking why the collection plate never goes missing.

Cookies on this site

This site uses cookies for ads (Google AdSense) and visit analytics (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity). Neither is required for the generators to work. You can accept both, or continue with only what's necessary for the site to function. See the for details, or change this anytime via "Cookie Settings" in the footer.

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 2026.

Fantasy Portal is an independent project run by one person (Tom). This page explains, in plain terms, what happens with your information when you use the site.

What's stored on your own device

The site remembers a couple of small preferences, whether you've switched to light mode, and whether you've already seen this notice, using your browser's own local storage. This stays on your device only; it's never sent to me or to any server.

Roll history

Your recent character, monster, and loot rolls are automatically kept only for your current browsing session, so you can look back at what you just generated. They're cleared when you refresh or close the page, and are never stored on a server unless you choose to sign in and use the Save feature, described below.

The Contact Me form

If you use the Contact Me form, whatever you enter (your name and email if you choose to give them, and your message) is sent to me via Web3Forms, a third-party form-handling service, so I can read and reply to it. It's used only for that purpose. I don't share or sell it.

Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense to show ads. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can see and control how Google personalizes ads via Google's Ads Settings, and read Google's own policy at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand roughly how many people visit and which pages they use. It uses cookies and may collect information like your approximate location and device type. This data is aggregated, and I don't use it to identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

This site also uses Microsoft Clarity, which records session replays and heatmaps of how visitors use the site, so I can see which parts of a tool are confusing or unused and improve them. It uses cookies and may collect similar technical information (device type, approximate location, pages visited). Microsoft's own privacy statement is at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.

Accounts and saved rolls

You can optionally sign in with your Google account to save characters, monsters, and loot you've rolled, so you can come back to them later. This is entirely optional. Every generator on this site works fully without signing in.

If you sign in, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with the site, which I use only to show you your own saved rolls and let you sign back in later. When you use the Save button, the details of that roll are stored in a database (Firebase, provided by Google) tied to your account. Only you can see or manage your own saved rolls. Nobody else, including me, can access them through the site.

Signing out doesn't delete anything you've saved; it's still there next time you sign back in. If you'd like your saved data deleted entirely, use the Contact Me form and I'll remove it.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you want to ask about your data, use the Contact Me form. It reaches me directly.
