False Appearance. While the shrieker remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary fungus.
Shriek. When there is a bright light source within 30 feet of it, or a creature touches it or comes within 5 feet of it, the shrieker emits a shriek audible up to 300 feet away for as long as the stimulus persists, ending its turn on subsequent rounds only if the stimulus is gone. Each monster within 30 feet of the shrieker that can hear it has advantage on the initiative roll for the encounter that follows.
How hard a fight? Against a party of four, a single shrieker is barely a challenge at any level. Add allies or more foes in the encounter generator.
Where you'll find it: the Underdark and dungeons.
