Petrifying Gaze. When a creature that can see the basilisk’s eyes starts its turn within 30 feet, the basilisk can force it to make a DC 12 Constitution save if it isn’t already petrified, or the target begins turning to stone and is restrained, then fully petrified after failing again on its next turn.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6+3) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage.
How hard a fight? Against a party of four, a single basilisk is deadly at level 1, hard at level 2, medium at level 3 and easy at level 4, and barely a challenge from level 5. Add allies or more foes in the encounter generator.
Where you'll find it: the Underdark, mountains, dungeons and deserts.
